Images from La Paz (3500m)
- ...
- ...
- does anyone know this guy?
- some really steep inclines
- ...
various impressions:
- high altitude gives your brain less oxygrn ![]()
- Flamingos in alpine lakes at 4600m ![]()
- condoms for gas-pumps ![]()
- "I want to be your pet!" ![]()
- "Hey Muchacho your are not supposed to park here!" ![]()
finally some pics to catch up with the stories...
- totally desert!
- some Inca carvings
- our campsite in Putre at 3700m
- Vicunas (typical animals for northern Argentina Andes)
- snow covered volcano with volcano lake
Sorry folks - still no pics at this point. ![]()
However we moved on...
- La Paz was a real experience: simply more packed and more streetlife than Santiago or Buenos Aires. Also the highest (3500m) "capital"-city in the world wih some extreme steep inclines!
- We explored the Southern end of the Lago Titicaca at the little town of Copacobana. Amazing views there!
- Further on along the southern coast of the lake to eventually hit Cuzco in Peru today.

Where do you take the ferry ?!
I might be able to join you already in Panama but only on the 22th if my schedule alows it.
From Panama to Mexico border its only 2000km...why need 10 to 14 days?!
The ferry leaves Manta in Ecuador on the 18th and arrives latest 21st in Panama.
So should match your schedule... ![]()
Yeah ok, we might not need 14 days. ![]()
Currently I'm not fully aware what there is to see, the exact route, etc.
Plus we are rushing pretty much right now so we might take it just a little easier in Middle America - let's see.
@ stocky:
no probs!
yeah would be cool if we could work sth out. ![]()
We will reach Panama on 21.May by ferry and from there we will see...
roughly 10-14 days later we will hit Mexico.
Will keep you posted.
Hola amigos des vehiculos sportivo ![]()
Well in the end Chile wasn't much more expensive than Argentina.
However Gas is a fortune there: almost as expensive as in Germany
(apr. 1,- eur per liter 93 octan)
Anyhow Chile was very interessting!! - a lot to drive though
From San Pedro de Atacama we drove up to Iquique. (there is a grand Tax-free shopping mall ;))
And the next day further up to Arica. (the northern-most city in Chile)
We (our great Transit Nugget :D) climbed the Andes from Arica to Putre with no murring at all ![]()
That was an incredible steep incline:
from Sea-level up to 3700m on a distance of 150km ![]()
Yesterday we drove into Bolivia up another pass (4600m) and arrived in La Paz ![]()
Wow what a trip so far:
- 27 days (since we got the car)
- 12.000 km
- 36 degrees of latitude (54 at Ushuaia to 18 at La Paz)
...to be continued
- Then again in the middle of nowhere... ![]()
- this might be my new ride... ![]()
we headed west of Antofagasta to te town of San Pedro to see the fantastic:
- Valle de la Luna
- a quick snack in the middle of nowhere
- another camping experience right in the desert
- some artist's work
- from Santiago we visited the "very special" Coastal Town of Valparaiso
- after 2 more driving days through La Serena and Copiapo (1000km north of Santiago) the extents of the giant Antofagasta desert began:
there are just so many different views of Sand, Rocks, and Salt - amazing!
- That´s how Honda drivers look like in Chile - haha ![]()
- One specially for "texjur"
- you can definetly see the smog problem in Santiago ![]()
- and something to feed all of you Ford-blamers out there ![]()
But we already did more than 9000 kilometers very fine on it! ![]()
Currently we are in La Serena (650km north of Santiago) and doing great!
After crossing the Andes to Chile we spent the first night in Osormo, a historic town in Southern chile (no pictures here)
Then we reached Santiago:
we did a full day of tourist stuff, all the highlights, etc...
and had a blast the evening/ night: lots of party there
![]()
@ Yves: you really missed out, dude ![]()
Here some impressions:
Here the last impressions from the Argentinien side of the Andes:
- mountains and lots of pretty lakes around Villa La Angostura
@ Yves: "la taverna" was closed (Sunday night) -> bummer! ![]()
- camping the way it should be... ![]()
Tach!
ab jetzt werde ich in English weiterschreiben:
Habe mittlerweile einige englischsprachige Mitleser und fuer die Deutschspr. ist es ne gute Uebung ![]()
we were feed up with all that camping stuff...and considered stying there...

http://www.avd.de/index.php?id=586
Euch entgegenkommen!!
